The Corsava Card Sort
To begin a Corsava Card Sort, log in to your Corsava account and navigate to "My Stuff" and select the "Card Sort" button or click "Start a Card Sort." This is your chance to give your college search the personal touch. Many students are surprised that there are so many things they had not yet considered when it comes to selecting a college.
Each card represents a unique characteristic of the college experience, with definitions to help you explore your choices. Select what you Must Have, what Would Be Nice, things you Do Not Care about, and those things that are a No Way.
Once you have completed entering your choices, select the "Yes, I want to see my report" button to save your answers and load your report.
Tip: Don't worry, if you aren't sure about a choice you can change your selections later.
Your Corsava Report
Your report is a color-coded summary that organizes your preferences by category and level of importance.
To find this report:
- Log in to your Corsava account
- Navigate to "My Stuff"
- Select your completed card sort
On the toolbar, you have the following buttons.
- Archive: This puts a card sort into your archive.
Note: if you shared a link to a report, archiving it will disable that link. Anyone who tries to open the shared link will see an error. You can re-enable the link by selecting the "Unarchive" button on the report.
- Delete: This will permanently delete a card sort.
- Share Link: This creates a secure link to the report that anyone you share it with can access. To protect your identity, only your first name and first initial of your last name will appear. The link also includes instructions on how to use the report.
- Print: This will create a printer-friendly report, including a cover page and instructions on how to use the report. You can save a PDF version of your report by changing the printer destination to "Save as PDF."
Sharing Your Report
Itβs a good idea to share this with the people who will help you along the journey like your counselor, college reps, trusted mentors, parents, and guardians. To do this, navigate to "My Stuff" and click on your completed card sort. From there, you can share a link or print your report.

Selecting Your Geographic Preferences
Colleges are looking for students who will be a great fit, no matter where they are. Reaching out to colleges that match your preferences, but are in areas you may not have considered, can reap big rewards in terms of fit and financial support, often resulting in life-changing benefits.
To set your geographic preferences, log in to your Corsava account and select the "Interactive Map" button (in "My Stuff," under Location Preferences).
To enter a preference:
- Click on a state on the map or from the list
- A box displaying four answer choices (Must Have, Nice to Have, Do Not Care, No Way) will load over the state
- Select one of the answer choices
You only need to select the states that you have a preference for or those that fall into the No Way category, all others will remain grey.
Each of your location preferences will appear as an icon with the corresponding emoji answer choice. These preferences will also appear on your Card Sort Report.
Tip: You can change these preferences any time.
Creating Your List of Colleges
There are lots of resources to help students build lists. You are already ahead of the game now that you have your Corsava Report and know what you want as you begin your research.
Tip: You can learn more about researching and interacting with colleges in the "Tips" tab in your account.
To add or modify your list of colleges:
- Log in to your Corsava account
- Navigate to "My Stuff"
- Scroll down below Location Preferences
- Click "Select Colleges" to start adding each one
Start typing the name of the college and colleges will start to appear in grey below the box. Click on the college name to add it to your list.
Tip: Don't rule out colleges because your scores don't fit perfectly into their averages. Many colleges look beyond scores and they may want students from your area who rarely attend their college. Your application may have something compelling that makes you a great fit, or you may have shown a real interest in being a part of their community!
Adding Your Impressions
You have the chance to rate your Must Have and Would Be Nice cards at each of the colleges on your list. Whether you visit a campus, chat with admissions reps, do online research, reach out to current students at a college, talk to your friends, or just hear something that resonates; you can track these impressions on Corsava.
To add or modify your impressions:
- Log in to your Corsava account
- Navigate to "My Stuff"
- Scroll down to "My Colleges"
- Click on one of the colleges on your list
If you are visiting that college, you can add the date of your visit.
The first time you select a college from your list, a game β similar to a card sort β will load in which the cards that are important to you will appear in random order. Simply select an answer for each card. You can always edit these choices later on, so don't get stuck if you don't know an answer. Just select the "Don't Know" option.
Tip: Consider your preferences and impressions as you visit campuses, research online, go to fairs, and talk to people. We recommend that you spend some time researching or visiting the college before you give your initial impression.
To add notes about a particular card, click "Add Notes" at the bottom of the page. By default, any notes you add are private. If you would like your counselor and/or parents/guardians to be able to view your notes, select "Shared" from the drop-down menu to the right of the card name. Refer back to your notes as you are preparing your application, writing your "Why This College?" statement, and/or preparing for an interview with an admissions representative.
See How Your Colleges Line Up
After you complete an impression game for a college, a score will appear next to the college name. The score is weighted, giving your Must Have cards more priority over your Would Be Nice cards. Colleges are sorted by score, with the colleges having the highest scores appearing at the top.
Tip: You can update this list anytime you want. And don't worry β if you remove a college and decide later to add it back in, all of your impressions and notes will reappear.
